Saturn Outlook Recall 10V375000

Second Row Seat Side Trim May Restrict Safety Belt

Recall Details

When moving the seats from a flat to upright position, the second row seat belt buckle may bind on the second row seat trim shield. This could prevent proper operation and securing of the safety belt, which would increase the risk of injury to an occupant. Dealers will modify the second row seat trim shields. The GM recall number is N100243. This recall began on August 18, 2010.

Our Quick Take

There is a trim shield on the sides of the second row seat. If the seat is folded flat and is then returned to the upright position, the safety belt buckle could get hung up on that trim shield. This might affect the ability of the seat belt to be buckled, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

Summary
GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, BUICK ENCLAVE, GMC ACADIA, AND SATURN OUTLOOK VEHICLES. THE SECOND ROW SEAT SIDE TRIM SHIELD RESTRICTS THE UPWARD ROTATION OF THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE WHEN THE SEAT BACK IS RETURNED TO A SEATING POSITION AFTER BEING FOLDED FLAT. IF SUFFICIENT FORCE IS APPLIED, THE BUCKLE COVER COULD BE PUSHED DOWN THE STRAP, EXPOSING AND PARTIALLY DEPRESSING THE RED RELEASE BUTTON.
Consequence
THE SAFETY BELT MAY NOT RESTRAIN THE OCCUPANT AS INTENDED DURING A CRASH, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.
