Simply turn the headlight switch to the OFF position ... then turn it to the FIRST position... Parking lights only will be on... Are the FRONT PARKING LIGHTS working? ... Are the rear TAG lights working?

...yes front park lights work.... light on license plate is only one working in back when in first position
thank you

Bulb sockets and wiring TO the sockets needs to be checked... *Fuse is NOT the problem*... 'IF' wired for trailer towing ... Those wires need to be checked as well.

i was told it could be the switch under the brake area and its $90 to fix....sound right?

NO.... You stated that brake lights working ok! ... That is totally different than 'park' lights... Your best bet is to seek hands-on help... Good luck!

I have the same problem on my 99 windstar. Both brake lights work, but only one rear running light works when the headlights are turned on. Mine has been bad for some time. I had it looked at by a local repair shop and they said there is a Rear Electronic Control Module that needs to be replaced. They run around 350 or so , but you can find used ones on ebay for about 80.00 to 150.00. I hope this helps.

Strongly suggest further hands-on testing by qualified 'mechanic' before buying any parts!.. Did this module fix YOUR van?
on October 27, 2015
It was checked out by qualified mechanics. I never did replace the unit. Still driving it with one taillight out. Its been that way for the last two years.

Don't see how you get by with that, unless you don't drive at night... It's improper equipment here in VA.... All it takes for the tail lights is a simple power and ground circuit... If one is working .. use that one for the source!! .. Suggest that to your "qualified mechanics" to see what the answer is then.. Just so you know..

Thank you..they replaced the 2 sockets and now checking electrical today..I will relay your input ...thanks again
