We have an 09 kia rio. 158xxx miles. Were done most repairs ourselves with no issues...helps that I have a hubby who's a Millwright and has the tools. There was a problem about2years ago that after continually driving after2hours the car would chug and sputter....well...it ate up oil like nobody's business. I know the difference between oil and tranny Fluid...welllllll...after hiking to purchase oil I accidentally purchased tranny fluid...put the whole quart in the oil....and freaked out...well next day I got a complete oil change and the car hasn't done it since. Wonderful car anyway. Luckily ( knock on wood) we haven't had to change the timing belt...but that is a good600 price stage which is planned on in the spring at the dealership. Otherwise great car!
Yes, I would recommend this car.

My Kia rio has started giving me issues as well. I have a 2009 with 86,000 miles on it and today the engine practically died!!!! I will not be purchasing another Kia, of any kind. On top of that, you can not get parts for them except at the dealer. NO after market parts!!! I had to go to the dealer for a LUG NUT!!!

I have 244000 on my Rio. That is not a typo!
Oil changes every 5000(synthetic).
Timing belt change at every 65000.
Still get 32-36 mpg winter and 37-40 mpg summer.
Love this little car!

This is a HORRIBLE car! I have had nothing but problems with it. I bought it brand new and it only has a little over 10,000 miles on it. I already had a complete electrical malfunction, breaks went bad in THREE months and they still cant find the problem with them and I've had the car for 7 months now (still with the bad breaks), light fictures fell out and the warranty doesnt cover that, and now my air conditioner is making hissing noises. My paint was chipping off withing a matter of days of me driving it off of the lot. Paid $14,000 cash for it and its only worth $200 in my eyes.
