I Have A 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited. The Skreem Is Bad. If I Replace It With A Used One, Do I Need To Reprogram? on 2005 Jeep Liberty
I would not recommend getting a used SKREEM for your Liberty. The SKREEM and the PCM share a password specific to your VIN. Chrysler has left a back door open, so to speak, that will allow factory trained techs to marry the two modules. I can not share that info. The Vin is programmed in both modules and the password must be retrieved through Chrysler service info. The Vin cannot be erased in either module through normal programming procedures. You would need to get at least one of the two modules new to perform the procedure. Financially, it would make more sense to get a new module if that is indeed your problem. Bottom line, Yes it can be done, but why would you want to?

If you are looking for a IOD (ignition off draw) on a multi-plex network vehicle, I strongly suggest taking your vehicle to a trained technician. The problem with unpluging certain modules is, you might not know how it will effect the others. Some modules wake up with the approach of the operator, some when the key is inserted, when the ignition is turned on, when the vehicle is started, when the vehicle is driven. These modules are connected to each other and when looking for a draw, you need to understand how your vehicles network works. Is it on a LIN (local Area Network), a dedicated Bus, a can-b, a can-c bus. All of these have very distinct operating characteristics and voltage readings. They also have different ways of sleeping. The module you are looking for is in the center stack. You probably wouldn't open your T.V. and attempt to repair it. Your vehicle is a whole lot more complicated, and improper service procedures can damage, and even render useless, certain functions of your vehicle, as well as be extremely expensive lessons. If you don't have the info to find the part your are looking for, you most likely don't have the info on how to service it properly. the first level of awareness; not knowing what you don't know, is not a good place to be when poking around with vehicle electronics. The second, knowing that you don't know, is definitely a better starting point ! Good luck. If you are still having trouble, give us a call.
