Good service and nice people. They provided a free estimate and then did the work needed according to the estimated price. I feel comfortable coming back again and recommending the business to others. There was also a cute office dog!

Dodge has a Technical Service Bulletin #09-005-00 which directly repairs this problem. It also explains that the "internal" leak can cause the engine to spark knock and the computer will disable overdrive when it thinks the timing is off. Search the bulletin number and you will find all related information.

The external oil coolers can leak internally but cylinder head gaskets can cause cross contamination as well without water/coolant getting into oil pan. Depending on where the gasket breaks, the compression of the cylinder is much higher than cooling system pressure. That would allow for oil to enter cooling system but no coolant in the engine oil.

If the cylinder heads were not inspected by machine shop to verify they are not cracked, the new gaskets would not last very long. Cylinder heads are common to crack when they overheat as well as the sealing surfaces warp which allow for leaking. A machine shop will pressure test for leaks as well as resurface gasket area to ensure proper seal.

Oxygen sensors are a major cause of poor mileage. You should have the system scanned for trouble codes to determine a baseline for diagnosing possible sensor failures. When oxygen sensors fail they can create many symptoms as well cause damage to catalytic converters so have it checked as soon as possible!
