Chrysler Recalls 1998 Dodge Rams Due to Defective Fuel Supply Tube

Recall Details

Chrysler has recalled certain 1998 Dodge Ram 1500/2500 models equipped with 5.9L 24-valve Diesel engines because the low pressure Diesel fuel supply tube located in the engine compartment between the filter and the high pressure pump can fracture, which may cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, a fuel leak may result in a fire. Dealers will replace the low pressure diesel fuel supply tube.

Summary
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 5.9L - 24 VALVE DIESEL ENGINE. THE LOW PRESSURE DIESEL FUEL SUPPLY TUBE LOCATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BETWEEN THE FILTER AND THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP CAN FRACTURE.
Consequence
THIS CONDITION CAN ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, FUEL LEAKAGE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LOW PRESSURE DIESEL FUEL SUPPLY TUBE.

OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 14, 1998. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-992-1997.
