Recall 17V668000

Trailer Tow Module Shorts Causing Multiple Electronic Concerns

Recall Details

Water may enter the optional trailer tow module, resulting in electronic concerns such as turn signals that flash fast, instrument panel display failure, an electrical short or deployment of seat belt pretensioners. Dealers will add a drainage hole for water to flow through in the driver's door step well and incorporate a fuse into the vehicle's wiring harness free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

For vehicles equipped with the optional trailer tow module, water may enter the module and corrode the wiring. This can cause a range of electronic malfunctions to occur, such as causing the turn signals to flash rapidly, causing the instrument panel display to fail, causing an electrical short or deploying the seat belt pretensioner. All of these resulting problems would cause the increased risk of a crash.
