Recall 17V592000

A Loose Driveshaft May Strike The Fuel Tank

Recall Details

The affected vehicles were manufactured with a driveshaft catch strap, which prevents impact of the driveshaft to the fuel tank in the event the driveshaft comes loose. Dealers will install a catch strap free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The driveshaft that drives the rear wheels of the vehicle could strike the fuel tank if it should become loose for some reason. To prevent this, a catch strap is present to protect the impact from occurring. The catch strap on affected vehicles is missing, which makes it possible that the driveshaft could strike the fuel tank if it comes loose. This would increase the risk of a fire.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Sprinter must be performed by a Sprinter dealership. Daimler Vehicles USA will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable of this notification is not available as of the time of this writing.)
