Power Steering Assistance Fails

Recall Details

Corrosion build up between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of power steering assist function. Dealers will inspect the steering gear assembly and replace it as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Chevrolet must be performed by a General Motors dealership. General Motors will notify known owners of affected (a timetable for this notification is not known as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The General Motors recall number is 17248.

Summary
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet SS vehicles. Corrosion of the connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of electric power steering assist.
Consequence
A greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering is lost, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the steering gear assembly, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 17248.
