Sunroof Panel Detaches From Vehicle

Recall Details

The panoramic sunroof panel may detach from the roof of the vehicle while driving, due to a bonding failure with the sunroof wind deflector. Dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Hyundai must be performed by a Hyundai dealership. Hyundai will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in December, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Hyundai dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Summary
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata Hybrid vehicles manufactured December 8, 2014, to August 18, 2015, and Hyundai Sonata vehicles manufactured May 28, 2014, to March 18, 2016, equipped with the panoramic sunroof option. Due to a bonding issue with the sunroof wind deflector, the sunroof panel on the affected vehicles may detach while driving.
Consequence
If the sunroof detaches from the vehicle it could become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 2, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 152.
