Recall 16V498000

Headlights Not Aimed Properly

Recall Details

The headlight assemblies may not have proper aiming markings on them, making them unable to be aimed properly. General Motors will mail owners instructions and adhesive labels to install on the headlights, and owners can install on their own or bring to their local dealership to have them installed free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The headlight assemblies installed with the vehicles may not have proper markings to aid in properly aiming the lights in the proper direction. This could cause reduced night time visibility and could lead to an accident.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Chevrolet vehicle must be performed by a General Motors dealership. General Motors will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable of this notification is unavailable as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The General Motors recall number is 50190.

Summary
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016 Cruze vehicles manufactured November 5, 2015, to May 26, 2016. The headlight assemblies are not marked with a three-digit identifier code used to properly aim the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
Consequence
Without the identification code, the headlights may be improperly aimed during service, reducing nighttime visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
GM will mail owners instructions and adhesive labels, with the correct code, to install on their headlight assemblies. Owners may also bring the vehicle to a GM dealership for any assistance with applying the label, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service Department at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 50190.
Notify
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
