Engine Stalls While Vehicle Is Braking

Recall Details

The engine may stall unexpectedly while the vehicle is braking. This could cause confusion for the driver, thinking the vehicle is operating in conjunction with the "ECO start/stop" system. Dealers will update the engine control unit (ECU) software free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Mercedes Benz vehicle must be performed by a Mercedes Benz dealership. Mercedes Benz will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mercedes Benz dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2016 GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupe vehicles manufactured December 10, 2014, to June 6, 2016. An error within the engine control unit (ECU) software may allow the engine to shut-down while the vehicle is braking, possibly confusing the driver into thinking the shut-down was planned due to the ECO start/stop function.
Consequence
If the engine shuts down unintentionally, there may be an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will update the ECU software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
