Recall 16V110000

Passenger Frontal Air Bag May Not Deploy In A Crash

Recall Details

The front passenger seat occupant classification system may incorrectly classify an adult as a child when the seat massage feature is activated. Dealers will update the occupant classification system module with new software free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The passenger seat has a mechanism that determines if an occupant in the seat is an adult that should have protection offered by the passenger frontal air bag in the event of an accident. This mechanism also turns off the air bag and prevents its deployment in the event it detects a child in the seat. The system may malfunction and shut down the passenger side air bag preventing deployment when the seat massage feature is active, even with an adult in the seat. This increases risk of injury.
