Electrical Short Causes Engine Stalling And Fire Hazard

Recall Details

The battery wiring harness may rub against the frame bracket for an engine mount, causing a short circuit in the wiring. This can cause the engine to stall, and a possible fire. Dealers will inspect the vehicles to confirm that the battery wiring harness is correctly routed and secured, replacing any harness that shows evidence of wear free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Ram truck must be performed by a Ram dealership. Chrysler notified known owners of affected vehicles beginning in 2015. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Ram dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is R43.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ram 1500 diesel 4x2 trucks manufactured August 8, 2013, to July 2, 2015. The affected vehicles have a battery harness that may rub against the frame bracket for the right engine mount resulting in an electrical short.
Consequence
If the harness shorts, the vehicle may stall and there is an increased risk of a fire.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to confirm that the battery harness is correctly routed and secured. Any harness that shows evidence of wear will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R43.
