Engine Will Not Start Or May Stall Due To Fuel Pump Failure

Recall Details

The vehicle may fail to start, or stall while driving, due to a faulty fuel pump. The dealer will replace the fuel pump free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Volkswagen or Audi must be performed by a Volkswagen or Audi dealership, respectively. Volkswagen notified known owners of affected vehicles beginning in 2015. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Volkswagen or Audi dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Volkswagen Golf, GTI, and Audi A3 vehicles. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.
Consequence
If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle will not start, or if the engine is running, it will stop and the vehicle will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any affected fuel pumps, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi at 1-800-253-2834.
