Recall 14V163000

No Warning Indicates For Malfunctioning Front Turn Signals

Recall Details

The front turn signals do not indicate any malfunction to the driver if they are not working properly. Dealers will update the vehicle software for this system free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

If a turn signal light malfunctions, it may not show a proper warning to indicate a problem to the driver. This would typically be shown by a fast flashing turn signal when activated. This could lead to a safety issue.

What Should You Do?

Recalls on your Land Rover must be performed by a Land Rover dealership. Land Rover notified owners of affected vehicles beginning in May, 2014. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Land Rover dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. Summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2014 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles manufactured from May 7, 2013, to October 10, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the turn signal indicator may not flash at a double rate or click at a double-rate to give a notification to the driver of a front turn signal malfunction. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Consequence
Without a warning that a front turn signal is malfunctioning, the driver would continue to use the vehicle, unaware that other drivers on the road are not being notified that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on, or before, May 27, 2014. Land Rover's number for this recall is P042.
