Fuel Tank May Leak in a Crash

Recall Details

The 34 gallon fuel tank equipped on some trucks may be damaged and leak if the vehicle rolls over in a crash. A fuel leak could result in a fire if an ignition source is present. Dealers will install a fuel tank shield onto the front frame cross member. The recall began June 12, 2007. The Chrysler recall number is G16.

Summary
CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 34 GALLON FUEL TANKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THE FUEL TANK MAY BECOME DAMAGED DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS, WHICH COULD ALLOW FUEL LEAKAGE TO OCCUR IF THE VEHICLE ROLLS OVER.
Consequence
FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUEL TANK SHIELD ONTO THE FRONT FRAME CROSS MEMBER. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 12, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
