Rear Differential Fluid Leak

Recall Details

The retainer for the left rear axle may crack, resulting in fluid loss from the rear differential. The loss of fluid could result in severe internal damage and possible failure of the differential. Failure could disable the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the drive shaft retainer as necessary. This recall is expected to begin by December 15, 2005. The Suzuki recall number is HT.

Summary
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RETAINER REAR DRIVE SHAFT MAY CRACK AND THE GEARS MAY GET STUCK DUE TO OIL LEAKAGE BY THE RETAINER.
Consequence
THIS CAN LEAD TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL GEARS LOCKING UP AND THE VEHICLE MAY BECOME DISABLED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RETAINER REAR DRIVE SHAFT. SUZUKI WILL CALL OWNERS ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 15, 2005. FOLLOWUP LETTERS TO OWNERS WERE MAILED ON FEBRUARY 13, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.
