Rear suspension / Air pump

(1999 Ford Expedition)
The pump under the hood used to air up the rear suspension bags ran constantly. Expensive to fix so a mechanic told me he could install coils and he did. He does not know how to turn the pump off so the "noise" it makes continues. Can I turn this pump off, if so, how?

Behind the front passanger side kick panel there is a switch labeled Air Susp it is kinda difficult to see but that is where it is. It is a on / off switch, when you turn this switch off the light on the gauge cluster that reads chk susp will stay lit but the compressor will not run.
