Simple fix. I have a 2001 Catera. I solved this problem by taking out the circuit board above the brake pedal that is in a small plastic box, that opens. The single relay for the radio, fuel door and trunk needed to be re-soldered. It looks like it was held in place by the shellac and not soldered. I wonder what country made these? My problem never reoccurred yet after several years.

along with trunk door, fuel door, radio and clock only working intermittently, will a bad multi function relay module cause check engine light to come on? all maintainence has been kept up on the car.

Replace the k134 multifunction relay module on the BCM. $90 from GM. They will try to sell you the whole BCM for $800, but all you need is the relay. It's behind the far left air vent. To access it, remove the panel to the left of the dashboard that is visible when you open the door. You can do this in the dealer parking lot in about 3 minutes.

You will need to perform an electrical diagnosis of this problem to know what the cause is, which requires a wiring diagram, voltmeter and electrical diagnostic experience. If you have these 3 things, then you have a shot, if not, I suggest you take it to a repair shop. Good Luck!

You need to change the K134 Multifunction Relay module: The Multifunction Module under the IP. (Under the Drivers side dashboard ) It is factory part number 90494163 and is around $85 plus tax at the dealer.
