Rack and pinion steering

(1999 Ford Taurus)
I developed a leak in my power steering unit and use some gunk power steering stop leak (I was told that this would not harm my car) to stop the leak. A week later I noticed a leak from my rack and pinion unit. I asked a repair technician about it and was informed that the stop leak ruined the seals in the rack and pinion unit. Have you ever heard of anyone else having the same problem

Are you talking about two different leaks? Where was the first leak you tried to fix with the stop leak additive? What are you referring to as the "Steering unit"?
