Components attached to the air cleaner assembly can easily be damaged during air filter replacement IF proper procedures are not followed. (Hands-on help may be the next door neighbor or a friend - with some auto repair savvy.)

That is certainly the right answer. The cover of the engine houses the air filter, and most people crack or destroy the cover taking it off. It is very hard to remove without breaking. I've cracked one, and I've removed them about 1,000 times. The bad thing is cracking the cover means you will have unfiltered air entering the engine at all times. The service costs less than replacing the cover.
