My son car was fine earlier in the day. later that day he went to go somewhere and the car wouldn't come out of park.

check the switch you can adjust it either in the steering collum or in the floor shifter if it gets so far out of adjustment it wont allow the button to release it
Two more things to look, Shifter mechanism at transmission is properly adjusted and also i have seen this problem when Brake Light fuse is blown, check both, start first with fuse
