I want to know what would be done to my car in Service C? Is it better to have this service done at a dealer or a private mechanic?

Most Mercedes dealers are pretty good in my opinion. But there's nothing like having an independent specialist to help you. Find one (or the dealer - or look in your owner's manual) and ask him what a C service entails. Here's a directory link for you: https://repairpal.com/mercedes-benz-repair-in-southampton-pennsylvania
A "C" service takes three hours to complete not only an oil and filter change but also many other items that need attention according to your service manual. Mine is due for one now which adds new spark plugs, new cabin air filters, new engine air filters and fluid quality checks of the coolant and brake fluid. If those fluids are out of spec. they will be replaced. My mechanic also pointed out other work that may be required due to there being no indication of previously being done by four different MB service centres. With the car having done 124000km we may have to do a transmission service as well.
