I have a 2000 town car that the driver side electric seat does not work. I can hear the relay click but the seat will not move.

My 99 150K Cartier TC has a similar problem. My Memory Seat retracts fairly well when ignition is turned off and key removed. Get back in and insert key and the seat attempts to return to MY settings. All motors run in seat fine except the For/Aft Driver. This moves forward a few inches then just clicks - jerks. I removed the entire seat today and found all exposed gears and tracks still in fine shape. Internally the 3 motor & gearbox assy is where the glitch is. The center motor's gear (For/Aft) must be stripped as it clicks trying to move forward and just jerks before ever it reaches MY comfortable pre-selected position. Definate a stripped gear. NOW how do I fix this, Economically? The 3 motor assy and gear box is riveted together so not servicable. I was told by an old friend who used to work at a Lincoln Dealer back in the 90's that the RT Seat power unit is almost identicle, so one of those (obviously having less use over its lifetime) could be swapped in? The only part missing from the RT side is the Memory Assys which are basically just Encoders attached externally to the 3 power motors. Jump in here with any help here gang. All is appreciated. Calling the dealer tomorrow to find out the cost (YIKES)for a new complete unit, since my attempts to disassemble today (sealed/riveted together) proved I HOPE they have rebuilt units at the dealer available out there. I love my car and THIS is its only FLAW..... Terry
Great answer posting, Terry. You hit the nail on the head. Your problem is internal, not servicable without replacing the assembly. You can find some used parts out there, though, and that's probably the only way to cut a few bucks off the deal. Other than that, the original equipment parts are silly money.
