When hood is raised it will not stay up. What would cause this?

This started happening when the alternator went out. Since then it will not stay up.

Replace or have 'both' the hood lift/supports replaced. Avalilable at most parts stores. NAPA's part # BK 8195684 Thay loose pressure over the years and fail at 'any' given time.
