The check engine light can be reset with a scan tool. If you haven't checked the codes, you may consider documenting what codes it has before erasing them. You can also disconnect the battery to reset the monitors. Once reset the vehicle will go through multiple drive cycles, and either the check engine light will come on again, or it will find the systems ok and the light will not come on, even when all the monitors are complete.
