I replaced the spark plugs myself with no issues. What I have read is, the heads on the 4.6l are aluminum and have shallow threads, you can strip the threads easily, which would damage the heads. It's important to use anti-seize on the threads, and not too much torque. I don't have the torque figure, but I understand it shouldn't be tightened much more than when the plug stops turning with a socket wrench. As I understand it, the problem isn't so much the plug replacement itself - these heads have been reported to 'eject' spark plugs because of the shallow threads. Replacement of the plugs can be done yourself, just use caution and common sense, considering the problems with the heads.
