Engine oil leaks at the cam housing, balance shaft, cam shaft, and oil pump should be repaired quickly. The timing belt can become oily and deteriorate if leaks are not repaired.
The driveshaft bearings on higher mileage vehicles may become noisy.
Due to a broken plastic link at the servo motor for the heater control flap, the interior temperature can become wildly erratic.
Due to a failed resistor pack, the HVAC fan may only operate on the high speed setting.
Suspension components (including control arms, boots, and ball joints) are critical and require regular inspection.
The cooling system must be inspected regularly, as small leaks can develop at the reservoir. The heater valve and fan operation should also be inspected.
Engine shut down or a "No Start" may be caused by cracks at the DME (fuel pump) relay solder joints. Repairing or replacing the failed relay should correct this concern.
Air leaks at the manifold gaskets can cause engine misfire (especially at idle) or black smoke under load.
The release arm for the throw out bearing can bind and cause problems with the clutch. Flywheel wear can cause driving and shifting problems and may cause the hubs to fail.
The hydraulic fluid
for the clutch
system may be overlooked; the fluid should be replaced regularly during brake fluid service
. If aging or contaminated fluid
is not replaced, there may be problems in the lines and actuating components, as well as clutch issues that are difficult to diagnose.
Automatic transmissions can leak internally and cause the automatic transmission fluid
(ATF) to mix with the differential oil. An overfilled differential
and/or a low fluid level in the ATF reservoir is symptomatic of this. If not repaired immediately, the transmission will fail; the pinion seals will also need replacement.
Pay close attention to warning lights and have the brakes inspected regularly—immediately address any brake problems. Hard driving habits will cause excessive brake pad and rotor wear.
Aged brake fluid can cause numerous problems and should be replaced regularly.
