(1990 Volvo 740)
in Niverville, NY on September 30, 2010
At 206 km my fuel tank is showing empty. it takes approx 32 liters to fill up. This seems like very poor mileage to me. What can I do to improve it?

There are a couple of things that can cause low fuel economy but you should see the CEL on, or have poor running conditions. Is your check engine light (CEL) on? How is the engine running?

The engine runs fine. I had it rebuilt (by a Volvo repair shop) a few months ago. There is no engine light on. I took it back after 1000km to be adjusted. it is better than before but I don't think it is where it should be. When it was rebuilt, they had to replace the Head, because it was warped. The transmission was also replaced with a 960 tranny. The original had a crack in the casing and was beyond repair. Could this be a problem?
I have tried to restore it as close to original as I can (with the exception of the transmission).
