GM Recalls Minivans Due to Potential of Fuel Leakage in a Rollover

Recall Details

The Chevrolet VEnture, Oldsmobile Silhouette and Pontiac Montana minivans may have an inoperative fuel tank rollover valve. This could allow fuel leakage during a vehicle rollover. This could result in a fire. Dealers will inspect for inoperative rollover valves and replace affected fuel tanks.

Summary
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS WITH EXTENDED WHEELBASE. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE INOPERATIVE FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VALVES AND FUEL LEAKAGE WOULD EXCEED THE PERMISSIBLE AMOUNT IN A ROLLOVER TEST. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY."
Consequence
IN A VEHICLE ROLLOVER ACCIDENT, IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, A FIRE COULD RESULT.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES TO LOCATE AND REPLACE THOSE FUEL TANKS THAT COULD HAVE INOPERATIVE ROLLOVER VALVES.
