I have an oil leak in my car. I don't know if it's coming from the valve cover (?) or somewhere else. I know one mechanic wanted to put something in the oil to discolor it...but can I do this myself? I know replacing the cover would be pretty easy, but I'm not sure that it needs to be replaced...just one of the many places it could be coming from. It's on the top of the engine, I can see it and it's corroding a belt...any suggestions would be amazing! thanks :)

My car makes a rubbing noise when turning left. Mechanic told me it was my steering pump and I needed to replace the rack and pinion. My car has 75,000 miles. Is this typical? How can I be sure an entire steering rack is required? (I have been told in the past that my cv joints look like they are wearing, but don't need replacement yet. Could tht be related?)
