You will need to check for play starting at the steering column, there is a universal joint in the column the worn your way down the steering column and feel for play as you get a friend to gently move the steering wheel from side to side taking up only the "play" (be careful not to catch your fingers). Check the steering gear for play, if steering rack check for play in tie rod ends and inner tie rod ends, if steering box check for play in the drag ling and pitman arm joints. Jack up the truck and check for suspension and steering play .
