My suggestion is to get a repair manual if your going to work on your own vehicle, and it's easy and inexpensive to get a high quality repair manual. To be better prepared, read up on the job you're about to perform, it will show you component locations and what special tools you'll need.

Jackass of a reply. My library includes The Chilton Total Car Care Series. I could not find "how do you know when to replace the pitman arm." I'm asking for help in deciding which mechanic's opinion to go with. One claims the pitman was replaced 20k miles ago. The other says it is worn out. The estimates are very far apart.
