If it is happening at speeds above 2h mph or so, it may be a front wheel bearing.

You may have feather edged tire wear. If you have this irregular tire tread wear, it will make a roaring noise that is louder when slowing down, especially when driving downhill. If it is the wheel bearings, the noise will change when you turn. The shift of weight as you turn make the noise louder when the bad bearing has an increased load and when you turn the other direction the noise should get quieter. To see if it is tire wear you need to use your hands to inspect the tire tread. Put on a glove that can protect your hands from cuts (if your tires worn poorly steel wires can be exposed and those wires will slice your skin up very easily) place the palm of your gloved hand flat on the tire tread. Now move your hand along the tread towards the front of the vehicle, be aware of how smoothly your hand moves along the tread. Then do the same thing in the opposite direction and compare the feel. If one direction you feel a smooth tread and then you feel a roughness going the other direction the tire tread is probably the cause of your noise. If you see any waves in the tread surface then you have tire wear issues. This is more likely to happen with more aggressive (all-terrain type) tire tread designs. Might want to make a quick stop at a tire shop and see what they think, I'm sure they would take a look without charging you. Good luck.

I had the same problem. It might be your wheel bearings!
