No OverDrive on my 1990 dakota 4x4 v6 3.9

transmission works fine on first gears. up shifts and downshifts without a problem, the only thing is that i can't get to go on o/d gear. i tried the overdrive switched on the dash, and changed fluid and filter. no luck.

You may have a OD switch problem which is not uncommon, an OD solenoid issue in the transmission, a wiring problem or the Transmission Control Module (TCM). I suggest you visit your local dealership or Transmission specialty shop for inspection and diagnosis. Here is a link to shops in your area.
