The Column Mounted Shifter May Not Be Secure in Park
On vehicles with a column shifter, the shift lever may have been damaged during assembly. Over time, the lever may fail and not be secure in the park position. This could result in the vehicle rolling unintentionally, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
Please contact your Nissan dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The column shifter assembly may have been damaged during vehicle assembly. During its use, this could result in failure to be secure in the park position. This could result in the vehicle rolling unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the shifter as necessary. This recall is expected to begin on September 27, 2004. The Nissan recall number is RU403.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:COLUMN SHIFT ASSEMBLY
ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A COLUMN SHIFTER, THE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY FOR THE COLUMN SHIFTER MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY.
DURING ITS USE THIS COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE PORTION OF THE ASSEMBLY THAT HOLDS THE LEVER IN THE PARK POSITION. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SHIFTER. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
