New transmission

(2002 Volvo V70 XC)
in Carnation, WA on March 02, 2011
I was told that I need a new transmission for my V70-XC. It has 107,000 and 2 repair shops said the fluid is dirty. However, one says that I need a new transmission, the other says I need to replace the valve body. What should I do?

The valve body can cause problems, but if you have over 100K on the transmission it isn't worth trying to resolve the issue by replacing just the valve body, it's better to replace the transmission.
What is the issue that you're having? Have you had a Volvo shop look at it?

Thanks for your reply, Bret. Shifting low gears really hard. Volvo said it needed a software upgrade. I decided to replace the transmission--not at the Volvo.
