Thankfully, there is an access cover under the passenger side of the dash that allows you to remove just the heater core without pulling the dash. You may have a steering gear issue or pump issue causing the steering difficulty. Have the steering pump tested.

I understand that there are 2 rubber hose connections thru the firewall that you should cut from the engine side for easier removal. Is this true? I can clearly see the heater box under the dash on the passenger side, but will I also have to remove the engine doghouse for any easier access?
