Q: mysterious fender damage on both sides on 2000 Honda Civic

Rookie cbe0621eac06868b3efe0d8d1d3611e23c60d3114864ea2ec19a68cfbd3eebab
We thought fender was run into but the damage has occured to both front fenders. One body shop mentioned that "soft front" may have gotten weighter down by excessive ice and snow and is buckling both sides. Have you heard of this? They haven't examined under car yet, only outside visual inspection so far. Thanks.

The fenders are light on these cars. Light weigh means better gas mileage. We had a fellow put stiffer springs on his car and came by to show us how great his "new" springs were by doing the old "bounce test" on his front fenders to test the shocks, he didn't apply a huge amount of force but you could see the mark left on the fender by his hands. Needless to say he didn't show off the new springs on the other side of the car.
