My heater only gets warm

(2000 Dodge Dakota)
in the winter, my heater only blows warm air. blowers work fine and if i am driving for a couple of hours it will warm the truck. thermostat works good engines runs at about 190 degrees. in the summer the air works fine
What seems to make the problem better or worse? the colder it is out side the longer it takes to warm up
How long have you had this problem? lat year
