Hi - just tried to smog my 2002 Jeep grand cherokee - failed for functional check - got "P0455 evaporation control system gross leak detected".

You need to have the EVAP code retrieved. Just clearing it is useless. In California, where I work, they DON'T allow you to just clear a code, because it is bogus and a scam, it fixes absolutely nothing. Once you know what the EXACT CODE number is, let me know, I do Emissions work for a living and I deal with theses issues every day. I will try to help you deal with this.
I have the same problem with my Denali. my engine light came on. I took to auto zone and they gave me the code.. P0455
evap large leak detected.

acouple week ago my service ride control light came on the dealer told me it was my air ride compresser. so I put the new on myself and i noticed it was a hose that look like it was coming from the area where you put the gas at running down to the pump. I hooked up everything right and my service ride control light went off..a week later my engine light you know if my evap problem got anything to do with the hose going to the compresser.
