My car starts but when I put it in drive it does not accelerate as it should.

(1999 Buick Century)
my car is an automatic it will shift gears once i get going. It just does not accelerate from a complete stop I have to put the car in 2nd gear to get going. Sometimes the car accelerates and is good for awhile then it goes back to not accelerating. I think there is a short in the wiring. I replaced the vacuum modular and the car accelerated, then stopped.
What seems to make the problem better or worse? if I hit bumps in the road
How long have you had this problem? few weeks

Not sure what wiring you think is a concern, but if you had an electrical transmission concern, you would have a warning indicator and trouble codes stored in the processor.

To me, it sounds like an internal mechanical transmission concern. Ensure the fluid is full and clean first. Then have the system tested for electrical transmission concerns. If all comes out clear, then internal diagnosis must occur.
