My A/C clutch went out. What should be replaced?

(1999 Cadillac DeVille)
Should I replace only the clutch or should I replace the complete compressor? Also should the drier be replaced as well? Should I replace or install an inline filter?

Usually you can get a clutch pack to replace a bad clutch on a compressor. You dont have to open the system to do this so you shouldnt need to worry about any of the rest. if you do have to open the system it is best to go to a shop. To restore a system to proper operation after it has been opened you need to hook it to a machine. This not only refills the system but vacuums all the air and moister out that is bad for your system. The clutch requires a special tool that u can usually rent from the parts store.
