On September 6, 2016, Mazda recalled 580,455 Mazda Mazda5. Mazda north american operations (mazda) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 mazda3 and mazdaspeed3 vehicles manufactured november 18, 2008, to june 8, 2013, 2012-2015 mazda5 vehicles manufactured october 26, 2010, to june 22, 2015, 2016 cx-3 vehicles manufactured june 1, 2015, to december 26, 2015, and 2013-2016 cx-5 vehicles manufactured december 15, 2011, to december 26, 2015. on the affected vehicles, the lift gate support struts may corrode, possibly causing the struts to break and/or the lift gate to drop unexpectedly.

The support struts that hold up the lift gate may corrode and break, resulting in the lift gate falling closed unexpectedly. This could injure someone at the rear of the vehicle.

Recall repairs on your Mazda must be performed by a Mazda dealership. Mazda will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in November, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Mazda dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Mazda recall number is 9916H.

Vehicles in certain cold weather states are being recalled because the sliding door latch mechanisms may experience water intrusion and freeze in cold temperatures. The affected door may not latch properly.

Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning December 18, 2006.
