Mazda north american operations (mazda) is recalling certain model year 2001-2004 tribute vehicles manufactured may 22, 2000, through december 19, 2003, originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia. these vehicles may experience excessive corrosion at the forward attachment of the lower control arm.

The lower control arm in the front suspension may corrode and separate from the vehicle, resulting in the loss of vehicle control.

Mazda notified owners of affected vehicles starting in May 2014. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them. The Mazda recall number is 7514D.

On vehicles equipped with a 3.0L V6 engine, the engine RPM can remain high after the accelerator pedal is fully or almost fully depressed.

Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning August 6, 2012. If you have any issues with the engine not returning to idle as it should, do not drive your vehicle and call your local Mazda dealer. You should also contact your Mazda dealer if you don't receive recall notification and you feel you should have. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
