The air conditioning makes it run even hotter, any ideas as to what can be causing this problem?

Difficult to start, dies when pushing the clutch in especially in low gears, minimal power, sounds strained, horrible burning smell, check engine light on obviously. Just happened all of a sudden.

price to replace timing belt

My car dealer told me I have the following problem - a stuck secondary shutter valve problem because of carbon build up. The Mazda service bulletin describes it as the following: RX 8 has experience a MIL with DTC P2070 (SSV Stuck Open). This may be caused by carbon build up near the SSV bushing, which may cause driveability concerns (hesitation and / or lack of power) and / or DTC P2070. A cleaning procedure and a revised SSV with stronger actuator force is now available.
The dealer wants $800 to fix it and I'm 5,000 miles over warrenty. Can any fuel cleaner (STP) be used first to try fix the problem before I need to have the dealer charge me for all the labor to pull everthing apart to clean or replace the shutter valve? Thanks for any advise. Is this an overcharge on labor?
