Malfunctioning Infinity Stereo

(2004 Kia Amanti)
in Miami, FL on November 01, 2009
When the weather gets cold or damp, the stereo cycles thru each radio station and cd. (it is the 6 cd changer). It will not stay on one station or cd or cd track until it is much warmer outside. Is the stereo finished or can it be repaired?

My son's 2004 Amanti Infinity unit does the exact same thing. When it's cold it goes from disc to disc, station to station until it gets about 65 degrees in the car. Then it behaves properly. This seems to be an Infinity design issue. However, we noticed if you load only a single disc in, it will play that disc, since there are no other discs to skip to. It's not the best fix, but at least it's still usable. Let me know if you've found any other answers. You can e-mail me at

Hello. I know it's an old topic, but maybe I can help. I'm from Poland and have a KIA Opirus - European version (Amanti) and the same problem with the radio INFINITY, which occurred a few days ago. When the radio is hot works OK, if it's cold skips the stations. The car is 2005 thought that this is a problem with cold solder. Remember the old problems of the Xbox 360 red ray of death (RROD) :) Was enough BGA reballing! I think we need to solder the radio again and maybe help.I try to find someone to help me, and let you know. Bye

My stero does the same thing all the time. It has nothing to do with the weather. Is there a fix for this a fuse or soething that might be blown. There is no stero section the owners manual.

Sorry for your issue but glad because someone else is going thru it! I hope someone comes up with something because I can't stand it! I'm close to getting an after market one and just replacing it.

I have the same exact problem on my 2006 Amanti. Sometimes if I keep on turning the radio on and off several times it fixes the problem temporarily. But that doesn't work all the time either.

On a different topic, beware of the timing belt. DKia dealers tell you it has to be changed at either 30K or 40K miles and in 2010 my dealer wanted $800. Every other car I have ever owned says a minimum of 60K and sometimes as many as 90K. If your dealer tells you to change it at 30-40K they are just trying to make a buck (or 800) off of you.

My radio does the same thing. Most of the Kia owners I have spoken with (Several) have this problem. Radio works when it wants to--skips from one station to another. You can set the station buttons all to the same one station--it will still skip but since all the buttons are set to the same station you just have a couple second pause each time it skips. Not a great fix, but better than no radio. For me it's enough of a reason to not buy another Kia.

Ours is doing the same thing, we took it to the dealership and now have to pay 50.00 dollars just to have them look at it and 100.00 more dollars for the stupid deductable our warranty came with.

It will not stay on one channel it skips all around and cd changer will only play for a few seconds then switch to the radio program where it continues to skip in all types of temperature warm or cold
