Q: lite for driver seat belt will not go out on 2000 Pontiac Montana

I just had extensive work done on the motor, intake manifold, heads resurface valves gasket..when I got the car back I noticed the seat belt indicator will not go out even when the belt is secured....however it will go out with time and them it will come back...the mechanic said it was a faulty switch in the seat belt connector.the lite is very intermittent....can I remove the lite all together and will it be an easy fix

There is a switch in the seat belt buckle that either gets opened or closed to tell the light to come on, it is often in conjunction with a sensor in the seat cushion if it is the passenger side seat. On later model cars the seat belt has to work properly or the Air Bags wont deploy properly (in this case the SRS/Air bag malfunction light will be illuminated). I just had the same problem with my Toyota Tacoma and the part was only $60. You may find more information on the websites I mention below. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website .There is a company that independent auto repair shops "buy" their information from that offer a very reasonable service to do it yourselvers. You get a one year subscription to year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... great quality information same as the professionals have ,much better than generic workshop manuals from parts stores, much cheaper than the factory manual. or try and get an online repair manual subscription.
