Kia is recalling these vehicles because the stop light switch can fail resulting in loss of brake light operation and may experience other electrical concerns.
Kia will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles during May 2013. If you are experiencing problems with the brake lights, cruise control, gear shifter, push button start, or Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system system, or if you don't receive recall notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Kia recall number is SC098.
The front passenger airbag may be deactivated improperly by the occupant classification system (OCS) control module.
Kia has not released a notification schedule at this time; however, the remedy is currently available under service campaign SC076. If you find the "passenger air bag off" warning light on when an adult passenger is in the front passenger seat, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
The stop lamp switch may fail, affecting numerous vehicle systems, many of which can increase the risk of a crash if they fail.
Consider this a high priority recall; the stop lamp switch could fail without warning. Please contact your Kia dealer; they will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
